The Peculiar is a wonderful new fantasy story, by debut author Stefan Bachman. I haven’t read a good fantasy in a while and this is making me fall in love with the genre all over again. The faery have crossed over into Britain and it’s now populated by humans, the faery and halflings. This week I’m celebrating the release of Jon Klassen’s new picture book, This is Not My Hat. Jon is an incredibly talented author and illustrator and his books are fantastic! The last book he both wrote and illustrated, I Want My Hat Back, has won numerous awards, including a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award.

This Moose Belongs to Me is the stunning new picture book written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. He is one extremely talented guy who always creates wonderful picture books, and this is no exception. It’s available in NZ this month and you can read my review on Monday.
Eve and Adam is one of my most anticipated books of the year. It’s written by two amazing authors (and husband and wife) Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate. They’re both amazing authors in their own right, but I’m looking forward to seeing how their imaginations come together in the same story.
Eve and Adam is due out in NZ on 1st October.
Four Children and It is Jacqueline Wilson’s brand new book. It’s due out this month and you can reserve your copy at your library now. I haven’t read a Jacqueline Wilson book before but I’ll definitely be reading this one. I remember watching the BBC adaptation of Five Children and It as a kid and loved it. I’m sure Four Children and It will be just as popular as her previous books.
The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket is the latest children’s book from John Boyne, author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I’m reading it at the moment and absolutely loving it! John Boyne is coming to Christchurch at the end of August for the Christchurch Writer’s Festival and I’m very excited to be interviewing him on behalf of Christchurch City Libraries.
The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket is out in NZ on August 17.
Unravelling is the debut science fiction YA novel from Elizabeth Norris. Ever since I heard about it back at the beginning of the year I’ve wanted to read it. It’s out now in NZ thanks to HarperCollins New Zealand. I’ll be posting my review soon.
The Kill Order is James Dashner’s prequel to one of my favourite series, The Maze Runner. It’s due out on August 14 (probably slightly later in NZ) and I’ve got my copy ordered. The Maze Runner, the first book in the series, is in my top 10 favourite books and I think it’s even better than Hunger Games.
James Dashner is also the series architect of the new multi-layered series from Scholastic, The Infinity Ring, which is due out worldwide on August 28. If you’re a fan of the 39 Clues series you’ll love The Infinity Ring.
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman is an exciting new fantasy that looks perfect for fans of Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle. Fantasy books have been a bit light on the ground recently so I’m looking forward to losing myself in this book. Seraphin
