The Hunger Games movie is released in 3 weeks and I, like so many thousands of others, can’t wait to see it. Until last year, I hadn’t read any of the Hunger Games books, but finally told myself I had to sit down and read them before the movie came out. After finishing them I couldn’t believe I’d waited so long.
Are you a huge Hunger Games fan who can’t wait for the movie? Are you one of those people who’ve been waiting patiently in reserve ques at the library to get a copy? Well have I got a giveaway for you! The lovely people at Scholastic New Zealand have sent me 2 copies of The Hunger Games: Collector’s Edition to give away to 2 lucky NZ readers. I’ll also throw in a bonus Adults Hoyts Movie Pass with each book.
To get in the draw all you have to do leave a comment on this post with your name and email address, telling me your favourite Hunger Games read-alike (i.e. which book you’d recommend for someone who liked Hunger Games). Competition closes Thursday 8 March (NZ only).
Thanks to everyone who entered. This competition is now closed. The winners are Angela Harden and Stephanie Kaan
For the kids at my school who are not quite ready for ‘The Hunger Games’, I recommend Jeanne Duprau’s ‘City of Ember’.
To those who loved “The Hunger Games” I would recommend “Divergent” by Veronica Roth. I have already recommended it to my daughter, and the both of us read on into the wee-small-hours of the morning. It took a little while to get into but once hooked it was very hard to put the book down.
Totally agree with you Sandra. Divergent was one of my favourite books of 2011 and I really can’t wait to read the sequel, Insurgent in May.
I’d recommend The Bar Code Tattoo by Suzanne Weyn – definitely subject matter that has some relevance with the advances of smart cards and the like. To be honest, I haven’t actually read it fully yet, but it has well and truly piqued my interest!
I would definitely recommend Tomorrow When The War Began and the series. They are both full of action, they have a similar story, where something happens and it leads to a whole big change to the main character’s life! Tomorrow When The War Began was one of the best series I have ever read along with The Hunger Games!
My son was just saying he loves this book….how trippy. Would love this for him
I would say Divergent too. Looking forward to reading the next book, Insurgent.
Hi! Hunger Games is my favourite book right now! But I SUPPOSE if I had to recommend something else for someone who enjoyed it too, I would recommend NZ Post Finalist ‘The Bridge’, by Jane Higgins 🙂 – Jemma
I’ve been dying to read these, would love this edition. Would be wonderful to win. I haven’t read The Hunger Games so not sure what to recommend as a read alike.
The Hunger Games are amazing!! My friends and I are absolutely obsessed!! 😀
I would recommend the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, although the Hunger Games is still by far my favourite.
My daughter has a new obsession the Hunger Games ! she is an avid reader and critic of great books so this to her would be the ultimate to own ! I have not seen her so excited since the Vampire Diaries which she has read again and again !

Recommend: Uglies/Pretties/Specials by Scott Westerfeld.
Absolutely love the Hunger Games. Reading the books right now and I can’t wait until the movie is out in less than 3 weeks.
Another fantastic series is the Tomorrow when the War Began series by John Marsden.
I think I would recommend Pure by Julianna Baggott for those who liked the Hunger Games.
Pure is one of the books I’m reading at the moment. I love all the mutated creatures that inhabit her world.
I would recommend “Unwind” by Neil Shusterman. Fascinating YA book about teens who are nominated to have their organs harvested and effectively die. Sounds gory but is really thought provoking.
I predict that “Ashes” by Isla J. Bick – the first in a thrilling new trilogy – will be the new ‘Hunger Games’.
I really loved the Hunger Games and would recommend the Uglies series, although I still think Hunger Games is by far the best.
I so wish I had seen this in time to enter 😦 Oh well, the movie is out in less then two weeks (:
