Kyle Mewburn is one of my favourite New Zealand authors. He has an incredible imagination and writes some wonderful stories, for all ages. Kyle’s latest picture books, Seesaw Po and Melu are among my favourite books at the moment.

My Best Friends Are Books 
I’m always amazed how reading Kiss! Kiss! Yuck! Yuck! brings students together and makes them laugh. A surefire way to ease any tensions in a class of Year 6s, or to quieten down a noisy lunchtime library session. I often find older students reading it with gusto to new entrants.
I love the simplicity of Old HuHu as it explores the death of a special someone and the feelings that arise – and the need to hang onto to whatever is left. A gentle explanation for children of all ages and beliefs, and a reaffirmation for the adults too. Stunning illustrations – it can’t be easy making a huhu beetle look cute, but it does!
I really loved reading Hill and Hole to the children. Loved how the text was written and the illustrations were fun.
