Are you Skulduggery’s biggest fan?

If you answered yes to the question above you just might have the chance to meet Derek Landy, the creator of Skulduggery Pleasant, when he comes to New Zealand for his 2012 Down Under Tour in August.  If that isn’t enough, you’ll also get a complete set of Skulduggery books, signed by Derek.  All you have to do to have the chance to meet Derek Landy is go to his website and answer these two questions:

  1. Gordon Edgley is, amongst other things, a horror writer and uncle. He is also dead. Stephanie, his beloved niece, is saddened by this unexpected event. In the first Skulduggery Pleasant Book you are introduced to the rest of Gordon’s family. Name the other family members who make an appearance in the sample chapter on the website.
  2. Tell them in 25 words or less why it should be you meeting Derek Down Under.

What are you waiting for?  Go to www.skulduggerypleasant.co.uk to enter.  You can also listen to a FREE audio book of the very first Skulduggery Pleasant book on his website.

Win The Hunger Games: Collector’s Edition

The Hunger Games movie is released in 3 weeks and I, like so many thousands of others, can’t wait to see it.  Until last year, I hadn’t read any of the Hunger Games books, but finally told myself I had to sit down and read them before the movie came out.  After finishing them I couldn’t believe I’d waited so long.

Are you a huge Hunger Games fan who can’t wait for the movie?  Are you one of those people who’ve been waiting patiently in reserve ques at the library to get a copy?  Well have I got a giveaway for you!  The lovely people at Scholastic New Zealand have sent me 2 copies of The Hunger Games: Collector’s Edition to give away to 2 lucky NZ readers.  I’ll also throw in a bonus Adults Hoyts Movie Pass with each book.

To get in the draw all you have to do leave a comment on this post with your name and email address, telling me your favourite Hunger Games read-alike (i.e. which book you’d recommend for someone who liked Hunger Games).  Competition closes Thursday 8 March (NZ only).

Thanks to everyone who entered.  This competition is now closed.  The winners are Angela Harden and Stephanie Kaan

Win a copy of R.J. Palacio’s WONDERful new book

Ever since John Schu (@MrSchuReads) and Colby Sharp (@colbysharp) of the Nerdy Book Club started raving about R.J. Palacio’s Wonder I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy and find out what made this book so amazing.  The wait was definitely worth it and I’m loving this wonderful story.

If you haven’t heard about it, here’s the blurb:

WONDER is the funny, sweet and incredibly moving story of Auggie Pullman. Born with a terrible facial deformity, this shy, bright ten-year-old has been home-schooled by his parents for his whole life, in an attempt to protect him from the stares and cruelty of the outside world. Now, for the first time, Auggie is being sent to a real school – and he’s dreading it. The thing is, Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, underneath it all? Through the voices of Auggie, his big sister Via, and his new friends Jack and Summer, WONDER follows Auggie’s journey through his first year at Beecher Prep.

I have one copy of Wonder to give away.  All you have to do is enter your details in the form below and I’ll randomly pick a winner.  Competition closes Wednesday 29 February, 2012.  Open internationally.

Thanks to everyone who entered.  The winner is Geoff
